Soulmask Admin Commands, RCON and Cross-Server Clusters

By the ChicagoServers team · Updated · 8 min read

To administer a Soulmask server you set -adminpsw at launch, then press ~ in game and run gm key YOUR_PASSWORD. From there you can use the GM panel, ban and mute players with server permission lists, and manage the server through a telnet maintenance port or optional RCON. Linking the base map with the Shifting Sands DLC map uses a separate, documented cluster setup.

Checked against the Soulmask wiki's private server notes and several host guides, current as of November 2026. Single-source details are labelled.

Quick answer
  • Admin access: start with -adminpsw="pass", press ~, run gm key pass, then enter the password again in the GM panel.
  • Ban: AddServerPermissionList 1 steamID. Mute: AddServerPermissionList 4 steamID. Remove with RemoveServerPermissionList.
  • Cluster: main server -serverid=1 -mainserverport=PORT, client -serverid=2 -clientserverconnect=MAIN_IP:PORT, and KaiQiKuaFu set to 1 in GameXishu.json on each.
  • Start the main server first and stop it last; client servers depend on it.

Becoming an admin

  1. Set the admin password

Add -adminpsw="yourpassword" to the startup parameters before the first boot, then restart if you change it later.

  2. Open the console

In the Soulmask client, press ~ while connected to your server.

  3. Activate the GM panel

Run the command below, then enter the same password again in the GM panel and confirm to become an administrator.

    gm key YOUR_ADMIN_PASSWORD

Host references list spawning items, teleporting, kicking and banning, and weather and time control among the admin tools. The GM panel also has a cross-server toggle used for clusters, covered below.

Joining your server and the invitation code

Players can join through Multiplayer, Direct Connect with your IP and game port. The server also generates a 25-character invitation code on its first run. It appears in WS/Saved/Logs/WS.log after the text [SERVER UNIQUE ID:]. The wiki notes have an FAQ entry on how the code is used, so check it for the current method.

If the server does not show in the browser, check that the game port (8777 UDP) and query port (27015 UDP) are open, that -forcepassthrough is on the launch line, and that you did not set a duplicate port when running several servers.

Admin and moderation commands

CommandWhat it does
gm key PASSWORDOpens the GM panel (password from -adminpsw)
gm BaoCunSaves the world from in game
gm go x y zTeleports to coordinates
AddServerPermissionList 1 steamIDBans a player
RemoveServerPermissionList 1 steamIDUnbans a player
AddServerPermissionList 4 steamIDMutes a player
RemoveServerPermissionList 4 steamIDUnmutes a player

The official notes also list tribe-management GM commands such as gm join_tribe [index], gm take_over_target_tribe and gm DeleteGuild Index. There is also a -serverpm startup parameter for player permission lists, but it takes a bitmask that the sources we found do not explain, so we are not going to guess values.

Telnet maintenance port and RCON

The maintenance port (-EchoPort, default 18888, TCP) is for local telnet use only and should not be exposed. From the server machine:

Maintenance commands: help lists commands; quit N shuts down after N seconds
telnet 127.0.0.1 18888
help
saveworld 1
quit 180

RCON is optional. Enable it with -rconpsw="password" and -rconport=19000. A host reference adds that RCON is restricted to allowed IPs listed under [Server.SafeIP] in Engine.ini, and that -rconaddr=127.0.0.1 keeps it local. Both details come from single host sources, so test them before relying on them. Use a different password from your join and admin passwords.

How to cluster the base map and Shifting Sands

Clustering lets players travel between separate Soulmask servers. The documented example pairs the base map, Cloud Mist Forest (Level01_Main), as the main server with Shifting Sands (DLC_Level01_Main) as a client. The main server stores the account database; client servers connect to it.

SettingMain serverClient server
Map argumentLevel01_MainDLC_Level01_Main
Server ID-serverid=1-serverid=2 (unique per server)
Cluster link-mainserverport=PORT (example 20000)-clientserverconnect=MAIN_IP:PORT
Game, query, telnet portse.g. 8777, 27015, 18888Different values, e.g. 8778, 27016, 18889
GameXishu.json"KaiQiKuaFu": 1"KaiQiKuaFu": 1

Guides also say to use the same join password and the same game mode on every server in the cluster, and the same Soulmask version everywhere. Cross-server mode can alternatively be switched on in the GM panel. Each server needs unique game, query and telnet ports, and the main server's cluster port must be reachable from every client.

What travels between servers

  • Character progression (the character, awareness and tech unlocks) lives in the main server's account database and follows the player.
  • World data does not travel: buildings, placed resources, local inventory and tribesmen stay on the server where they were built.
  • Players travel through a portal terminal on the mysterious island. Two host guides say this works while controlling a tribesman rather than a player's first character, so test with a spare account before announcing it.
  • Every player entering Shifting Sands must own the DLC, according to one host guide.
  • Converting an existing standalone server to a cluster node is possible, but a host reference says a migration tool (CopyRoles.exe) is Windows-only, the map names must match, and you should back up the world first.

Player counts and keeping it fast

The default cap is 20 players and host references state a ceiling of 70. Most communities run far fewer. A server needs roughly 11 to 12 GB of RAM just to start, and tribesman AI, which is heavily single-threaded, grows with the world. Keep an eye on the tribesman caps first when performance drops, and restart on a schedule during quiet hours.

Hosting with ChicagoServers? The Soulmask server hosting page lists what is included, such as free server backups and SFTP file access. For a cluster you need one server per map, and you set the same parameters shown above on each.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get admin on a Soulmask server?

Set -adminpsw at launch, press ~ in game, run gm key YOUR_PASSWORD, then enter the password again in the GM panel.

How do I ban a player on a Soulmask server?

Run AddServerPermissionList 1 steamID. To unban, run RemoveServerPermissionList 1 steamID. Using 4 instead of 1 mutes and unmutes.

Does Soulmask support cross-server travel?

Yes, through a main and client server setup with -serverid, -mainserverport and -clientserverconnect, plus KaiQiKuaFu set to 1 in GameXishu.json. Buildings and local inventory do not transfer.

How do I shut down a Soulmask server without losing data?

Use the maintenance port (telnet to <code>127.0.0.1:18888</code> and run <code>saveworld 1</code> then <code>quit 180</code>) or stop it from your control panel. Closing the window can roll data back.
