How to get Your Keymaster License for Fivem

What is a FiveM License Key

FiveM is a popular modding framework that allows you to run individual servers for Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V). As a server administrator, you have the full authority to control every aspect of your server. In order to do this, you’ll need to create a FiveM key, which grants you access to the server’s resources and enables you to customize the gameplay environment. A license key is required to operate any type of FiveM server and hosting companies cannot issue them as they need to be tied to your cfx.re account.

We will walk you through the process of creating a FiveM key and setting up permissions using the FiveM key-based authentication system.

Register on the Cfx.re Forum

Before you can create a FiveM license key, you need to create an account on the official FiveM forums. If you happen to have an account you can skip this step. Go to the FiveM website (https://forum.cfx.re/) and click on the “Sign Up” button. Fill in the required details, including a valid email address, username, and password or just login with Google or Patreon. Ensure that the email you provide is active and accessible as you need it for verification purposes.

After making your account, make sure to confirm the registration via your email inbox. Once logged in, access the Cfx.re Keymaster by navigating to https://keymaster.fivem.net. The Keymaster page is the official website used to generate and manage FiveM keys.

In the Cfx.re Keymaster, click on the “New Server” button. You will be prompted to enter some essential information, including your server’s name and the reason for key creation.

  1. Display name - This can be set to whatever you’d like to make sure you know which key belongs where in case you run multiple servers.
  2. Initial server IP address - Make sure that you do NOT include the port in the following field (the numbers after the :)
  3. Server type - Make sure to select VPS from the dropdown. This is an essential step.
  4. Which server provider are you using? - Fill this in with whatever you’d like as it is not important. It may be even random characters.

After creating your key a similar page to this one will be displayed.

Apply the Key to your Server

After you’ve created your key make sure to copy it and head over to the Game Server Control Panel. Access your server and either manually open up your respective server configuration file, typically located in a directory that looks something like this:

You can paste in your license key in the following location:

Alternatively, you can edit it via the server.cfg editor within txAdmin, as pictured below:

Restart the FiveM Server

To apply the changes made to the FiveM license key, you need to restart the FiveM server. Once the server is back online, the new key will be active, and the associated permissions will be in effect.
