How to change your tModLoader server's settings and worlds

Your tModLoader server's settings are on the Startup tab: the message of the day, a join password, and the world it plays. Click Save startup and restart the server after a change.

  • World name: the world the server plays. If no world with that name exists yet, a new one is made at the next start with the New world size, New world difficulty and New world seed below it.
  • tModLoader version: leave it on latest unless your mods need an older release. To use another one, type its release tag (for example v2026.07.3.0), click Save startup, then click Update at the top of the server's page to install it. Players need the same tModLoader version.

To update to the newest release, you can also open the Updates tab and click Install next to tModLoader (latest release). That always installs the newest release, whatever the Startup tab says.

Worlds

The Worlds tab lists the worlds on your server. Click Play next to one to switch to it, or type a name under Start a new world and click Use this name, then restart the server.

Uploading a world from your computer

  1. On Windows, tModLoader keeps its worlds in Documents\My Games\Terraria\tModLoader\Worlds. Each world is a .wld file with a .twld file beside it (the modded part of the world): you need both.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. Open the Files tab, go to tModLoader/Worlds and upload both files.
  4. If the file names have anything other than letters, numbers, - and _ before the extension (a space, for example), rename both the same way on the Files tab, keeping .wld and .twld at the end.
  5. On the Worlds tab, click Play next to it, then start the server.

Make sure the server has the same mods the world was played with: see How to add Workshop mods to your tModLoader server.
