How to upload pre-existing 7DTD world to our servers

Note: The version that the world was generated on that you want to upload must match the current version your server is running.

Alpha 19+ Instructions (this includes Alpha 20 and 21)
  1. Every world you generate is saved in its own folder that can usually be found in %appdata%\Roaming\7 Days to Die\Saves\<NAMEOFWORLD>

  2. If it's a randomly generated world, you will also need the GeneratedWorlds folder found at %appdata%\Roaming\7 Days to Die\GeneratedWorlds
Zip up the entire "Saves" folder containing the world folder and the generated worlds folder - Must be .zip, not .rar/.7z etc

1. Find the Player Folder for your Local Game:

A fast way to find the local files on your computer, is to open the Steam launcher and right-click the game in the Steam library and choose "Properties". Then click the "Local files" tab and then click the "Browse Local Files". This will open a window showing the location of the 7DaysToDie game files on your computer.

Every world you generate is saved in its own folder that can usually be found in C:\Users\<UserID>\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves if you are hosting on your personal computer. If you are transferring from another hosting company, it will be a different route. They will be able to assist you in locating it.

It may be within a ".local" folder in the server's main directory. (Directories starting with a period might be hidden based on system settings.)

* If you are transferring files from another server, you will need to locate the save folder on the other machine.

2. Upload the Player Folder onto the Server & Configure your new server:

  1. Login to your server's FTP (File transfer protocol) and drag/drop the saved files into your new server's path. FTP Instructions can be found HERE. (It's not that scary.)
  2. Once the folder has unzipped you should see Saves\<MAPNAME>\<NAMEOFWORLD>, exit the file manager and select configuration files → configuration editor and edit the mainconfig.xml config

The file structure/hierarchy should look something similar to this:

    * Yours may differ slightly, and if you have a Navezgane world, you should not be uploading anything in the "Generated Worlds" folder, so do not panic. This is for RWG (randomly generated worlds) only.

    Configuring your new settings:

    1. Once it's uploaded, you'll need to set your server to start up with it. Navigate to Configuration Files within the server control panel and then edit mainconfig.xml.

    2. Set "Game World" in mainconfig.xml to the same name of the folder immediately under Saves.

    3. Set the "Game Name" field to the exact name of your saved World in the folder below the map-name
      1. Example - World uploaded is Saves\Navezgane\myworld, you would enter "myworld" in the game name field as pictured below.

        * The options for GameWorld will either be "Navezgane" or "RWG". This flag should match the setting on your previous hosting setup. Our suggestion is to have every setting pictured above match the previous server config exactly.

    4. Set seed and map size to the same values on the server / PC the world was generated on so they are the same as before.

    5. Save config and start your server.

Alpha 19 Easy Start Method

If your World is just a single folder without a higher level folder named "Generated Worlds" or so on -

  1. Upload your world folder to \Data\Worlds
  2. Set the "World Name" field in the configuration file editor to match the folder name of your World exactly (as pictured below)
  3. You can set "Game Name" to anything you want
  4. Set the seed and size options to match the world you uploaded
  5. Save config and start server.
